Dr. Anil Sharma is a founding partner of Spine & Pain Centers of New Jersey and New York. He received his fellowship training in Pain Management at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In addition to board certification by both the American Board Pain Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Sharma holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Pain Management. He was recertified by the board in December 2006.
Dr. Sharma has been consistently recognized for excellence throughout his career in medicine. After graduating from medical school as Valedictorian, he received the esteemed Robert Dripps Award for Best Resident at Monmouth Medical Center, where he continues today as Director of Pain Management. Subsequently, Dr. Sharma was named Best Graduating Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic. And his elite status was confirmed by his rating as one of the top pain management doctors in the Greater New York area by the firm Castle & Connelly.
Dr. Sharma specializes in the use of minimally invasive techniques as well as more traditional treatments, including medication and physical therapy. A majority of the over 20,000 spinal procedures he has performed were minimally invasive. His expertise ranges from diagnosing difficult and rare cases, to pinpointing the source of back, neck and other chronic pain conditions. He is a leading practitioner of state-of-the-art techniques such as percutaneous discectomy, Implantable Pumps, Spinal Cord Stimulators, and more.
Dr. Sharma is a published author and experienced educator in spine care. He currently instructs residents and medical students at Monmouth Medical Center. He also has been course director for several cadaver courses to teach other pain physicians’ newer and more complex procedures. He also has International Pain Management doctors regularly visiting to observe him do more complex cases.
Dr. Sharma is affiliated with most of the area’s major medical centers, affirming his expertise and leadership. He sits on key pain management committees, such as the North American Spine Society Clinical Guidelines committee (nominated 2007), and was Elected the President of the New Jersey Society of Interventional Pain Physicians in 2007.
As testimony to his high level of devotion, compassion and competency, Dr. Sharma’s many patients include medical colleagues and their families, and countless referrals from current and former patients who have found relief of spinal pain through his care.
